NHS Service Opportunities Google DocFrom the back end, it is difficult for the NHS sponsors to use Weebly for our NHS process. In the next year, we hope to transition to a new, easer to use website. For now, we will still use this page, but rather than posting each new volunteer opportunity here (which isn't very easy), we plan to post them on this Google Doc. Kansas Palliative and Hospice CareKansas Palliative & Hospice Care is a faith-based hospice care organization dedicated to hospice care and focused on meeting or exceeding our patients’ individual medical, emotional, and spiritual needs, while making each remaining moment as meaningful as possible. The activities you will do as a hospice volunteer may be many and varied. From reading at a patient’s bedside and knitting lap blankets, to running errands, shopping for groceries, or helping with administrative duties - there's a wide range of possibilities. In order to provide the best care for our patients, community partners, dedicated volunteers are essential. Our volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to: • Companionship- Volunteers provide one-on-one time with patients (conversations, playing games, adult coloring books, watching tv or movies, or just plain companionship). •Emotional Support: Provide emotional support for the patient – and the family – such as providing breaks for family and friend caregivers to run errands, attend church services, or just have a break. • Reading and devotional - Volunteers sometimes read to patients or share a devotional time. • Meal Preparation- Volunteers help caregivers or patients prepare meals in their homes. • Crafting- Volunteers provide companionship by making crafts with/for patients. This can include knitting, quilting, crocheting, etc. • Yardwork/Gardening- Volunteers conduct light yardwork or gardening tasks (raking leaves, clearing brush, planting flowers, etc.) • Household help- help with household activities like running errands, arranging flowers, feeding and walking pets or other tasks to help keep things running smoothly. By volunteering with Kansas Palliative & Hospice Care, you are providing comfort and joy to our patients and their families. Many students who are interested in careers in the medical field find volunteering with hospice to be very meaningful, and it is a great addition to your resume!
